To 'shock' your pool simply means to add chlorine.
You may also hear the terms 'hit it with' or 'bomb it' with chlorine. All of which mean the same thing.
Since the Naked Freshwater Pool System as a rule requires little to no chlorine the term 'shock'
is used when a reasonable amount of chlorine is required to assist in bringing the water back to normal after being compromised such as an algae bloom or very severe weather storms.
The benefit with a Naked pool, is that we don't use Stabiliser (Cyanuric Acid) in the pool which traps and holds chlorine.
If you need to 'shock' your pool, do it ONCE and do it WELL as that chlorine will be gone again in under 24 to 48 hours which is precisely what we want.
ALWAYS USE LIQUID CHLORINE rather than Granular.
