Explanation:
Algae and water turning green can come about for numerous different reasons. The good news is this is treatable and you can have your pool back crystal clear in no time.
Causes:
- Phosphates.
- Poor water balance.
- Variable speed pump running too low.
- Lack of maintenance/large amounts of debris entering the pool.
- Storms and uncontrollable weather events.
Solutions:
- Phosphates typically come into the pool from organic mater (dirt/dust) or lawn care products; fertilizers, sprays, etc. Phosphates are a food source for algae to grow and if not treated will result in algae. Common signs of phosphates are cloudy water and constant high pH, we recommend testing for phosphates every 4-6 weeks and treat with phosphate remover.
- Maintain your water by doing regular water tests yourself or have regular water analysis carried out by your local pool shop.
- Longer running times are necessary if low speeds are being used in order to achieve adequate circulation and filtration of your pool. To adjust timers please click HERE.
- Every pool is different depending on the surrounding environment. It is recommended to keep your pool clean and free of leaves, by regularly checking your skimmer box and pump basket to clear any excess.
- Storms happen and this can certainly cause the water to change rapidly. After a recent storm event it is important to check your water balance and ensure it remains balanced to stop any issues that may occur. Lightning storms in particular can cause havoc with water, for information please click HERE. We recommend pressing the OXI Boost directly after the storm to ensure a boost of sanitisation and circulation in the pool.
