Extreme weather events can have several impacts on your swimming pool, however it is important to understand that in most cases your pool can be brought back to life in no time.
If you are not confident following the below steps we recommend seeking advice from a professional and should you have any questions, please get in touch by clicking on the following link https://support.naked-pools.com/hc/en-au/requests/new.
Preparation for extreme weather
- Remove any loose soils or contaminants in the area that may be washed into the pool.
- Remove any pool blankets from the pool. This may seem strange, however in the case of very strong winds, blankets may be blown off the pool and cause damage.
- Remove/secure any yard and pool deck furniture, pool toys and any other loose objects around the pool area that could cause any damage.
- Trim overgrown trees/plants to prevent branches that might fall during high wind.
- In extreme conditions it is important to turn OFF all your pool equipment, until the event has passed to avoid unnecessary damage.
Treating your pool after the event
During an extreme weather event, dust and debris may be washed into your pool, depositing phosphates into the water and diluting your copper, salt and normal water balance levels.
We recommend checking your water balance levels with your local pool professional and rebalance the levels in your pool as soon as possible.
Below are some tips to follow that will assist with getting your pool back to normal as soon as possible:
- Remove any large debris from the pool.
- Empty both the skimmer and pump baskets.
- Thoroughly backwash the filter to waste to ensure normal water levels are achieved.
- Test and re-balance the pool water including the addition of salt and minerals where required.
- Ensure that phosphates are tested and if high, add the required dose of phosphate remover by following the instructions to reduce levels back within range.
- Flocking the pool in extreme circumstances may also be necessary.
- A shock dose of chlorine may also be required and if so, run an OXI BOOST cycle once added.
- In the case of cloudy water a clarifier can be added by following the instructions
- Test copper levels using the Naked Copper Test Kit and run an ION BOOST if levels are low.
