It is important to understand that alkalinity helps to stabilise the pH balance in your pool. It goes without saying that by keeping your total alkalinity reading within normal range will save you a lot of headaches.
When the total alkalinity (TA) is within range, it prevents rapid pH changes and "stabilises" the pH level.
Alkalinity is a pH buffer, which means it helps to keep the pH from drastically moving up and down the pH scale by absorbing major changes to the water before affecting the pH.
The recommended range for a swimming pool's total alkalinity is between 80 and 150 ppm.
If your total alkalinity reading is low and requires adjustment we recommend Buffer (Sodium Bicarbonate - not to be confused with Sodium Carbonate).
200g will raise the total alkalinity by 10ppm per 10,000 litres.
